Blank Penance, 2025, wool yarn (dyed with Jewelweed, Ironweed, Queen Anne’s Lace, Goldenrod and Tickseed), acrylic yarn, tulip poplar branch & dowels, metal eyelets, 22” x 107”

Each of the 5 knitted flags in Blank Penance is dyed with pigment from the plant it depicts: (left to right) Jewelweed, Ironweed, Queen Anne’s Lace, Goldenrod, and Tickseed. The plant portraits are embroidered with synthetic yarn. Over time, the naturally-dyed backgrounds will fade, leaving behind only a synthetic simulacrum of the plant. Will we fight to retain the organic or are we satisfied with an imitation? Do we struggle with the natural because it means accepting everything ends?

Wet Web
, 2024, yarn, sequins, vines, paint, 40” x 34”

A tribute to the fleeting masterpieces created by our eight-legged neighbors: their exhibitions are quite brief, one must be observant to attend. This web remains wet with cheap plastic reflections; a frozen snapshot of ephemeral utilitarian craftsmanship. The creator is long gone, only their craft is remembered.

Endurers, 2025, acrylic & wool yarn, wood, acrylic paint, beads, 38” x 28”

Wildflowers fill the cracks in the paved surfaces that separate us from the earth. They adapt, endure, and persist. In late summer, bursts of evanescent periwinkle and yellow remind us that, even when new obstacles arise, we must continue reaching toward the light.
