Polyester Estuary
, 2025,  acrylic and cotton yarn, wood, acrylic, paper clay, metal chain, plastic bags, 108” x 80”

Created in homage to the Kentucky fiber artist Alma Lesch, Polyester Estuary highlights local nature: the painted floral frieze includes pixelated renderings of pollinator plant species and knitted portraits are suspended in handmade frames painted to match. The creature portraits are inspired by blockprint curtains commissioned from Lesch by Bernheim Forest in the 1970s. The creatures hang, like a curtain, on green chain that is accented with yellow roses made from plastic bags.

Conglomerate, 2023,
yarn, knitting needles, paper, markers, photographs. 36” x 80”

Conglomerates are often the most exciting type of sedimentary rocks because they are composed of rounded fragments of finer grained material, bringing together other hidden and unique specimens. They are diverse congregations to study and mull over. This piece, Conglomerate, utilizes multimedia to highlight the multi-geologic formations witnessed firsthand. In this work, the process began with an image of striking rock formations and grew to include a mapped design and a knitted translation. The rock formations live on land stewarded throughout generations by, among others, the ʼOʼloolekweesh ʼoʼl (Yurok), Taa-laa-wa Dee-niʼ (Tolowa), Núuchi-u (Ute), Diné (Navajo) peoples.
